Miramar Al Nayyar (b. 1997) is a self-taught Iraqi artist based between Amman and Abu Dhabi. Her practice spans painting and material experimentation, centring on movement as an elemental principle through which form emerges. She approaches process as a form of alchemy where pigment, medium, and texture collide to produce new visual and tactile states. Through a self-developed process, layering multiple materials and textures, Al Nayyar constructs surfaces alive with subtle transitions. Each layer holds its own chemistry: oil seeps into mineral, airbrush disperses light, and glaze settles into density. From these reactions, multi-textured fields arise, evoking script, symbolic systems, and formations that inhabit the space between desert rock and the human body, geological yet corporeal.

In recent works, Al Nayyar has turned to the materiality of rock formations and desert expanses, examining their relationship to the body and to archetypal imagery that recurs across cultures. She conceives of rock as a vessel of ancient psyche, opening a dialogue between transience and endurance, between states of flow and the stability of matter. Her paintings, then, are translations of movement, gestures that crystallise symbolic and elemental codes. Al Nayyar is a recipient of the Prince Claus Seed Award, and her work has been exhibited regionally and internationally.
