Red Period
Marina Abramović, Red Period 019
This unique pigment print captures a frame from Marina Abramović’s video performance Red Period: a visceral 1998 work exploring endurance, intensity, and transformation. Beyond its ties to vitality, red here suggests femininity and seduction, while also recalling the red light associated with sex work and concealment.
Much as Picasso and Matisse used colour to define artistic eras, Abramović’s distinct use of colour probes emotion, providing resilience and symbolic force.
In collaboration with Saatchi Yates, 600 stills from the original video were selected for the series, available individually for acquisition.
